White Hot Chocolate

Last Year on Valentine’s Day I had the opportunity to stay in Napa Valley. I decided to celebrate the occasion that I would schedule a ride on the infamous wine train. The weather was clear and it was a very enjoyable drive up to Napa.

Upon my arrival to the hotel, Villagio Inn & Spa, I was served White Hot Chocolate. I was really surprised by this complimentary beverage for I had never considered the prospect of drinking white hot chocolate.

Today, I think back to that trip and began to crave some of that delicious white hot chocolate I enjoyed a year ago. This white hot chocolate I’ve created is a simple yet satisfying recipe that I made with just milk and white hot chocolate chips that I had at my house. Although I think it would be extra tasty with a thicker cream.

Cook’s Note:

*The temperature you use on your stove top to heat the milk is important. If the heat is too hot it will scald the milk. I recommend you start a a low temperature to ensure that you won’t ruin the milk.

**Chocolate burns easily in the microwave. If you find that you cannot set the microwave to low heat I recommend you start by melting the chocolate at 5 seconds, pull out and stir, and then repeat as needed. Also, some microwaves have a setting for microwaving chocolate which you can follow instead of my recommendation. I also recommend tasting the chocolate before adding it to the milk to ensure it doesn’t taste burnt.

***When I pulled my chocolate chips out they didn’t have a creamy melt. However, I was able to stir up the chocolate chips so that they were all combined which was perfect for adding it to the milk.

****You can also add a drop of vanilla extract for a vanilla flavor.
